Originally established to educate children of Italian immigrants and persons of Italian descent, the school now attracts students of diverse ethnic backgrounds. Classes meet from 10 until There are all levels of Italian offered, including delightful classes for children. After a long work week I gave up sleeping in late on my day off, and I arrived a little groggy to class. However, I revived when I heard the music and the lively voices of the kids speaking Italian in the classroom next to mine.
It seems that they do all kinds of interesting projects to learn the language, like baking cookies in the shape of Italian words. At the break, it was funny to watch the kids bolt off to the kitchen at break time for a slice of pizza! Obviously, they have a lot of fun at school. Thanks to la professoressa e gli studenti, it was actually kind of interesting and I enjoyed following the discussion. But, what I truly enjoyed was being a part of a group of engaged language learners. I also have to say I got a kick out of observing the professoressa who was delightfully theatrical when she was speaking in Italian, but who changed personalities completely when she reverted to speaking in English!
